July 2011 - A New Family of Hats

FamilyofHats

A New Family of Hats

This project started out as "a" baby hat but soon turned into a "family" of hats because I was using a blue face leicester sock yarn with such good yardage that I just couldn't run out of yarn. The colorway is Sea & Sand and I dyed the contrasting colors in the same BFL. This yarn is a delight to knit, with nice body and crisp, even stitches, but soft to the touch. I feel a new page coming on....

Say Cheese: Class Picture

I knit these little guys as part of a project my knitting group (WiNKS--Wednesday Night Knitting Society) took on this spring. We made almost 400 "comfort dolls" which are being given to orphans in Nairobi, Kenya. I tried to make each doll unique; an individual with a big smile that says "I am happy to see you today."

April 2011 - Berets for Artists

Berets for Artists

These berets were gifts for my daughter and her best-beloved, both of whom are artists. The one for my daughter was inspired by a ball of yarn I got at a WiNKS swap night. The swap yarn was a shiney, brilliant rainbow of colors for which I hand painted a companion yarn in purples to act as a matrix. The other one grew from developing Pacarino "Tweed" in a colorway I call Starry Night--suitable, I thought, for a painter.

November 2010 - Knitted Knitting Bag

Knitted Knitting Bag

This is a project made from scratch, start-to-finish. I painted the yarn (a crazy felted thick-and-thin wool), designed and knitted the bag, and then constructed a lining with lots of pockets, made from some silk left over from curtains I had made. Fun and functional.
